Buddy Rich Insults Country Music
Переглядів 56 тис.7 років тому
Buddy Rich on the Mike Douglas Show casually expresses his extreme disdain for what he calls "hillbilly" or "cowboy" music, but his opinions are just as applicable to much of today’s Top 40 as well. It’s actually painful during several moments (Buddy even disses Chet Atkins and Glen Campbell!), as lovable George Lindsey (aka Goober Pyle) is politely sitting right there the entire time. Co-host ...

The big hit is on Sweet's album "Desolation Boulevard" (1975)... this is Andy Scott's home recording from '74. (The album cover background photo is looking west down Sunset Boulevard, just east of San Vicente.) P.S. You're Watching The Ben Show - by Gary Shapiro
Why is he fapping in background
He loses whatever small amount of credibility he has when he uses Love Story as an example of great filmmaking
For all his explosive virtuosity he never did anything as wonderful as Glen Campbell singing Wichita Lineman. Glen Campbell was one of the of the all time great guitar players as well. People like Buddy Ric, Frank Zappa and others have all this technical ability but they just miss something essential as to what music is really all about.
Damn Wayne newton been doing it a long time
Massive talent. Massive twat. Bad wig
Jerry Reed is Chet 2.0
Chet Atkins can play any style of music,Buddy Rich can not!Buddy Rich is an idiot!
But still a damn good drummer, just an insufferable person
@@johnkelleh7054 ,he is still a jerk! How many gold&platinum records does he have?Zero! He is jealous because country sold more records than he does!
This is so cool. What a master singer and picker!
Unlike Buddy Rich, I believe the country sound is one of the best forms of music. Artists like Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and Hank Williams are among the true innovators of country.
What an enjoyable performance 👍
He's full of crap
Who is buddy rich? Anyone that would have the audacity to be in public with that hair has no right to criticize anything or anyone
The world is better without this asshole in it. FU buddy rich.
What a pompous ass!
Jazz is moronic when compared to the best opera but ...
Everything that Buddy Rich said in this show, makes sense. However to actually comprehend what Buddy was saying, it's probably difficult, if not impossible, for people with no comprehension of music theory. Buddy was right, but he's spoke to people, in TV land, who, for the most part, couldn't understand what he's actually saying.
I’m a huge fan of Buddy’s talent. He was truly an icon of the drums in the genre of jazz. I always heard he was one of the biggest pricks on the planet to deal with in a band situation. This interview totally confirmed his arrogance and ignorance with a huge degree of snobbishness about other genres of music. I was totally embarrassed when he started slagging Chet Atkins to George Lindsay who was probably a cast member of the country music variety show “Hee Haw” at the timeframe of this interview. To degrade Chet and Glen Campbell as musicians totally shows Buddy’s ignorance and proves he hated what they played so much he overlooked on how well they could play it. I wonder what he would of thought of guys that came later like Brent Mason, Albert Lee, Jack Pearson, Tom Bukovac, Johnny Hiland………..and the number of other country guitarists who can flat out play jazz, blues, rock and country. Buddy seems like he was a miserable, opinionated narcissistic tyrannical bandleader from the 40’s that didn’t change at all with the times. From all accounts Benny Goodman was another miserable bandleader who was brilliant like Buddy but not very tolerant. I never heard of Benny bashing other genres of music though. Geez Buddy, it wasn’t like country just appeared all of the sudden like disco did in the 70’s that irritated a lot of music lovers. Hank Williams was well known all over the country and on top of the charts in the late 1940’s. I’m thinking there is more to this man’s dislike of country music than we’ll ever know.
Jerry Reed's existence demolishes this argument
What a horrible man. Glen could outplay anyone.
He's delusional. His first example of progression in music is the fake moon landing.
Buddy Rich was a snob....thank god for punk.
Jazz is garbage
A bit Rich coming from a guy who played one of the most primitive and unimproved instruments known to man.
I hate Buddy Rich. A New York City guy knows nothing about country music or the feeling behind it. Country music is about soul and emotion. Buddy is a wanna-be. Eff him.
Nobody says anything about his wig??
How arrogant can a person be to tell other people what they should like.
This is an elitist
He's not wrong, I like most music except country and rap. I don't think it's even in question what he would have to say about rap music if he was alive today. Probably would say exactly this. I mean what even is country music anyway, besides just cowboy chords, rednecks and trucks?😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Regardless of how great a drummer he was, he obviously was small minded when it came to music appreciation and somehow was limited in understanding that just because it is simple to you (Buddy), this does not equate with just how talented many musicians are and can be. Case in point with the link below. ua-cam.com/video/1c9FXlU2IWk/v-deo.html
He would probably be a Biden voter these days and never say what he said about 'hillbillies' and country music about Rap and Hip Hop. Best drummer ever but a twat of a human.
Good music is whatever sounds good to you. You don't need a PhD to recognize what sounds good, all you need is to be able to hear it... And anyone who tells you different is a fool!
I love music. I admire buddy. I don't agree with him.
Buddy Wretch never wrote a single piece of music his entire career, unlike the country musicians he's slamming.
Gosh this reminds me of me back in the day. As a classical musician, I used to judge my friends' musical tastes and felt superior to other musicians. A pure A-hole when I was young Lol. I'm so glad I grew over that and now enjoy a wide variety of genres and I won't be disrespectful if it's not my cup of tea.. As Les Paul said The audience, they're not professionals. They just love music. It isn't necessary to play over their heads to be admired.
Buddy would have a heart attact if he heard today's "music" !

He was Bitter because big band wasn’t the fashion any more and he had his time , I must admit I was never a fan of his drum tuning , to me the snare was to dry and most of the time the Toms sounded awful and all the best technique in the world can’t make them sound any better . Any ways music isn’t about technical ability it’s about the song , I never forget I was playing in a traditional jazz band one evening and on the sound system in the venue was then and the fashion at the time DISCO music
And the people in the band said listen to this rubbish, same beat all the time , I then said in defence of the Disco music I’ll be playing a slow swing or fox trot Rhythm or a Faster swing or quick step rhythm, either way there both the same beat , so I shouldn’t slag off the disco stuff if I was you . Any way Glenn cambel just to say your music will go down in history with people whistling the tunes , umm which I shouldn’t think many do with a buddy big band tune if I’m honest ,

I've always loved his guitar playing but the more I listen to him, his voice is equally right there. The guy has the blues and a real soulful sound, which just free flows. Like Stapleton in ways. This guy was a true pioneer and I hope more of you younger guitar players will dial in to his greatness and recognize his contributions to the instrument. Any genre, really. He was magic.
And he was insanely humble. On the Marty Robbins show he said something to the effect of “if I could sing like that I’d turn this into firewood” in reference to his guitar and Marty’s singing.
I'm a Buddy rich fan . But this is pure ignorance . He would feel bad if somebody made fun of his Star Trek outfit and haircut
George 3- Chord Jones sold more records than Buddy Rich ever saw. People would actually buy tickets for Jones concert knowing there was a good chance he wouldn't show up.....thats he great he was.
Ironically, I think that the average “skin flick” has a fairly good chance of containing more artistic value to me than Love Story, which has to be one of the most melodramatic, overtly manipulative, and condescending movies it’s ever been my misfortune to watch. Buddy puts his movie illiteracy on full display here.
one thing about Buddy is you have to keep in mind he was a famed child and under pressure from the Vaudeville scene to keep his 'place secured.' it would of affected his general viewpoints, however, the education, as he said, is imperative in order to understand the history of all of American music, which was a melting pot of styles including fiddle music.
They say don't meet your heroes.
What an arrogant prick!
Unbelievable how such a musical legend could be so ignorant. And I dont even listen to country. Whats shocking, is the audience's applause for his ignorance. 4:45-"hold it I'm the guest" Heres that side of Buddy that unfortunately, his band knows all too well. ua-cam.com/video/covUesgI6fA/v-deo.htmlsi=H4xgt-yvzxw9GVvl
Considering how Buddy Rich treated his band members made famous by the bus tapes, why would any kid choose jazz as a career?
I love Buddy's skills, but hooo man if he isn't the most miserable musician in the world. If you look at Krupa and Rich in performance, which dude would you want to hang with? Music isn't an elitist sport, it's a celebration of human skills and human expressions, and I'd hope that all of that comes from a place of joy vs. a place of resentment. Rich doesn't strike me as a joyful person.
“The only art form this country really has produced” 😂 What a pretentious moron… Blues is eternal. It’s like, sorry if it’s not complicated enough for you, Buddy… I thought music could be about almost anything, not just innovation and exploration. I thought it could be about conjuring emotions, telling stories, having fun, dancing, conveying a message, painting a picture, etc. I didn’t realize it was simply about having your head the furthest up your own ass…
Thank goodness I'm Generation X and know how to take creative criticism all of these little weaklings
